SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Area Manager of Information Technology, an Information Technology Specialist is responsible for a variety of complex operations as well as coordination duties; including troubleshooting, onsite and remote support; computer systems, servers, software, configuration and maintenance of all IT-related equipment and processes. Performs related and other work as required.

REQUIREMENTS
Training and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an Associate’s degree in computer science or information technology from an accredited university or college OR 3 years of paid directly related experience may substitute for the certification/college coursework requirement.
  • Preferred Training and Experience
  • Experience with troubleshooting printers, copiers, coin ill vending devices for copiers;
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing desktop and laptop computer hardware;
  • Working knowledge of networking and basic troubleshooting of networking devices (such as switches and wireless access points);
  • Experience configuring and managing users within Active Directory.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining desktop applications such as MS Office products and antivirus software
  • Highly Desired Training and Experience
  • Experience creating, deploying, and managing desktop computer images;
  • Experience with the operations of network security appliances and devices;
  • Experience working with VOIP telephony.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Comprehensive knowledge of:

  • computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, mobile devices.
  • Good knowledge of:

  • basic networking fundamentals, including WAN, DNS, IP addresses, DHCP, wireless, etc.;
  • computer operating systems, including current Microsoft Windows versions;
  • application software, including Microsoft Office, antivirus applications, etc.
  • Skills to:

  • understand and follow complex written and oral instructions;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and the public;
  • use resourcefulness, tact, courtesy, and respect in dealing professionally with library patrons, employees and vendors;
  • deal with multiple and extra unexpected tasks simultaneously;
  • establish good patron and staff rapport;
  • communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to groups and individuals;
  • learn how to use specialized equipment, software, and resources.
  • Ability to:

  • remain versatile in managing different types and severities of IT-related issues;
  • relate and communicate effectively with the public, staff and vendors;
  • understand and troubleshoot integrated library system-based services and databases;
  • Accept constructive criticism and build
  • keep records, make reports and maintain files;
  • utilize help desk, remote access and systems management software;
  • learn to manage computer images for mass deployment and disposal;
  • diagnose, troubleshoot and isolate complex components of networks, resources and services;
  • support printers, scanners, telephones, multifunction devices and fax machines;
  • learn functions, operate and perform basic maintenance on devices and specialized applications.
