Position

Blood Products Distribution Technician

Job Details

Location:

Shreveport, LA. Full Time, Mid-Shift. Base pay $14.43/hr with on‑the‑job training provided. Must be able to train on dayshift for the first 8 weeks.

Responsibilities
  • Drive a company vehicle to pick up donor blood from collection sites and transport it to the appropriate locations.
  • Prepare all necessary paperwork, separate unsuitable units, and package blood products and samples for transport to the processing facility.
  • Monitor product inventory levels, notify supervisors when levels fall below established minimums, and identify/outdate products.
  • Receive phone orders from hospital customers or other centers, document orders, select units, and charge out and fill orders.
  • Package blood, blood components, and derivatives for transport or shipment, relabeling and converting products as required.
  • Receive returns of products and document them appropriately in the computer system.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, OSHA, AABB) and comply with good manufacturing practices (cGMP).
  • Participate in in‑service training, continuing education programs, staff meetings, and safety meetings.
  • Maintain, organize, clean, and decontaminate the work area, equipment, and vehicles; report malfunctioning equipment or vehicles promptly.
  • Make routine decisions pertaining to work duties as permitted under policies and procedures, and refer issues that could potentially harm donors, employees, or the organization to a supervisor.
  • Meet and exceed customer expectations, adhere to established quality practices, and continually improve work performance.
  • Model Life Share’s mission and values in daily decisions, behaviors, and actions.
  • Promote cooperation and communication within the team to achieve company and departmental goals.
  • Complete other assignments and duties as may be assigned.
  • Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record (minimum 3 years of licensed driving history, no DUI convictions, and no more than two moving violations in the past 5 years).
    • Ability to lift equipment such as coolers, boxes, and supplies up to 40 lbs.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including on‑call rotation and irregular hours, often exceeding 8 hours per day, weekends, and holidays.
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting packaging labels and documenting orders accurately.
    • Dependable, punctual, and possessing effective communication and customer‑service skills.
    • Maintain confidentiality of donor or patient information at all times.
    • Experience requirements: 6 months on‑the‑job training for LevelII duty; 12 months for LevelIII duty.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    Work requires frequent vehicle operation, often for long periods; exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products; fast‑paced environment; required to lift up to 40 lbs unassisted; work outside hours, including weekends and holidays. Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and commercial auto insurance coverage.
