Job Summary
We are seeking an organized and proactive Operations Supervisor to oversee the daily activities of our Fiber Yard. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment, managing material inventory and quality control, leading the yard crew, and coordinating equipment maintenance and facility upkeep. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader dedicated to operational efficiency and strict safety compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety & Compliance
- Safety Oversight:
Maintain overall Fiber Yard safety. Lead crew Toolbox Talks and coordinate Safety Stand downs as required. - Incident Reporting:
Manage the "See/Say/Do" reporting system to document and address near misses promptly. - Standard Procedures:
Ensure strict compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, while continuously establishing and enforcing safety best practices.
Inventory & Material Management
- Counts & Records:
Perform accurate material and pallet inventory counts, and execute manual data entry into tracking spreadsheets. - Strategic Planning:
Develop "Pull & Stack" plans and effectively manage wall bale turnover. - Quality Control:
Conduct routine material quality checks, manage "Bale Breaks," and document "prohibitive" or material rejections (including taking photos and sending email notifications). - BOLO List:
Maintain and communicate an active "Be On the Lookout" (BOLO) list to track specific material issues.
Personnel & Administration
- Team Leadership:
Provide general management for yard employees and crews, including conducting New Hire Orientations. - Scheduling:
Manage the vacation coverage board, coordinate on‑call communication, and review/approve employee overtime forms. - Process Improvement:
Continuously identify and implement workflow improvements for the yard, dock, and trailer flow.
Equipment Maintenance & Facilities
- Equipment Upkeep:
Monitor fluids, grease, wearable items, and spare parts. Ensure all daily/weekly equipment checklists are properly documented. - Service Coordination:
Schedule Preventive Maintenance (PMs) and serve as the primary point of contact for vendor service technicians (e.g., Burwell, WPI, Herc). - Housekeeping:
Manage weekly cleanliness to‑do lists and oversee assigned staff (e.g., Carlos & Rudy) to ensure the proper maintenance of bathrooms, break rooms, and office spaces. - Procurement:
Maintain an active shopping list and manage the procurement of office, cleaning, and daily employee supplies.
- Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory experience in an industrial yard, recycling facility, warehouse, or manufacturing environment. - Safety Knowledge:
Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and hazard recognition. OSHA 10 or 30 certification is highly preferred. - Equipment Proficiency:
Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, loaders, balers). Active forklift certification is a plus. - Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively train crews, document issues, and coordinate with vendors. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a strong plus. - Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, Excel, email) for inventory tracking and reporting. - Problem‑Solving:
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to manage process improvements and troubleshoot workflow bottlenecks.
- Mobility:
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb frequently throughout the shift in a large, active yard environment. - Lifting:
Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. - Environment:
Ability to work safely in an outdoor/semi‑outdoor industrial environment that is subject to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and elevated noise levels. - Stamina:
Capable of working long shifts, standing for extended periods, and walking long distances across uneven terrain. - Sensory:
Requires visual acuity to perform quality checks on materials, identify hazards, and ensure equipment is operating safely.
