Overview
At Ochsner Health, the Nursing Supervisor – Unit Team Lead is responsible for driving patient outcomes through the application of evidence‑based information. The role acts as both provider and manager of care at the point of care for individuals and cohorts within a unit, coordinating and supervising the care team, including licensed nurses, patient care technicians, and other health professionals.
Responsibilities- Promote the utilization of nursing protocols and practice guidelines based on current evidence and support nursing research.
- Organize, plan, direct, provide, and coordinate patient care within the unit.
- Manage conflict on shift and report issues to unit leadership when needed.
- Act as a facilitator, aligning team needs with the strategic direction set by unit leadership.
- Assist leadership in identifying cost‑containment and reduction strategies.
- Adapt communication to the specific patient population, ensuring privacy and respectful interaction.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Education
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN required for all Ochsner Magnet Facilities.
Work Experience
2 years of nursing experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
Certifications
Current RN license in state of practice;
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
(KSAs)
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly to varying levels of individuals.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to move throughout the department and across off‑campus sites.
The role involves frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, and exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous medications. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
