CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Surgery Center

Summary

CHRISTUS Surgery Center - Shreveport is looking for a Full-time CRNA to work 40 hours a week, no call, no weekends and the ability to pick up extra shifts at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center if desired. The CRNA has the responsibility and accountability for providing advanced nurse practice while administering anesthesia to patients. This job is responsible for preparing and administering anesthesia agents to surgical patients under a delegating physician.

Responsibility and accountability of anesthesia services lies with the Medical Director.

• Assess patients peri-operatively, perform patient history and physical, review patient records to determine health status, review results of diagnostic tests, treatments, and orders as appropriate
• Provide patient and family education
• Perform routine procedures including drawing venous/arterial blood, administering general, regional, and local anesthesia, injections, local infiltrative anesthesia
• Place intravenous catheters and administer fluids, muscle relaxants, vasoactive and cardiac drugs
• Other responsibilities include mechanical ventilation, resuscitation techniques, hypertensive care, and hypothermia

• Perform patient history and physical reviews patient record to determine health status.
• Review results of diagnostic tests, treatments, and orders.
• Collaborate plan of care with the patient care team.
• Monitor patient peri-operatively.
• Round on patients as requested and draw venous/arterial blood.
• Perform venipuncture and manage fluids.
• Manage and initiate mechanical ventilator.
• Provide anesthesia including general, regional, local, and moderate sedation.
• Consistently monitor patients according to standards.
• Obtain knowledge of and demonstrate compliance with infection control and safety.
• Practice standard precautions and appropriate disease-specific isolation.
• Appropriately handle and dispose of unused medications.
• Keep work area clean and care for equipment at completion of case.
• Take measures to ensure a safe patient environment.
• Obtain training prior to initial use of equipment.
• Assure equipment is working properly.
• Participate in time-out procedure.
• Demonstrate the ability to administer medication safely and competently.
• Understands actions, side effects, contra-indications of drugs.
• Adhere to medication policies, practices, and standards.
• Safely administer fluids, muscle relaxants, vasoactive drugs, and cardiac drugs.
• Assure the rights of the patient/family are respected and maintained.
• Allow for privacy.

Education/Skills

• Master of Science in Nursing required

Experience

• 2–3 years of experience preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• APRN License in state of employment required
• CRNA certification from NBCRNA required
• ACLS required
• PALS required
• BLS required

Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
