The Community Coordinator serves as a catalyst for community revitalization through relationship-building, program leadership, and faith- driven engagement. This is a live-in role (eventually) in which the Coordinator becomes an active and visible presence within the community, building trust, supporting residents, and leading programs that promote growth and stability. Community Renewal welcomes applicants who are interested in serving individually, as a couple, or as a family within this community-based model.

This role requires a high level of personal accountability, professionalism, and sound judgment, as the Coordinator represents the organization within the community and must maintain appropriate boundaries while fostering authentic relationships. Community Renewal International is a faith-driven organization, and this role includes participation in faith-centered activities as part of community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Community Engagement & Relationship Building:
    • Reside within a designated inner-city Friendship House, integrating into the neighborhood fabric.
    • Spend consistent time with neighbors, actively building trust and fostering positive relationships.
    • Serve as a primary point of contact and resource for community residents.
    • Identify community needs and strengths through direct interaction and observation.
  • Program Development & Management:
    • Operate and manage daily activities for the Kids and Youth Club, providing a safe and enriching environment.
    • Facilitate and oversee various educational and character-building programs, including but not limited to:
      • After-school education programs
      • Tutoring and homework assistance
      • GED courses
      • Computer training
      • Art and music lessons
    • Organize and lead community events such as block parties, family nights, and service projects.
    • Develop and implement new initiatives that align with the Friendship House mission and community needs.
  • Community Empowerment & Goal Achievement:
    • Work collaboratively with residents to help them set and achieve basic goals in critical areas, including:
      • Community cohesion and engagement
      • Educational attainment
      • Leadership development
      • Housing stability
      • Health and well-being
      • Personal and neighborhood safety
      • Meaningful work and economic opportunity
    • Connect residents with appropriate resources and support networks.
  • Financial Management:
    • Responsible for managing and adhering to assigned program budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient resource allocation.
  • Collaboration & Reporting:
    • Work closely with the leadership team, direct supervisor, community partners, and administrative assistant for communication, reporting, and support.
    • Participate in mandatory meetings, including but not limited to Monday Morning Meetings, Prayer Walks, and other designated events.
    • Initiate and maintain healthy relationships with neighbors, business partners, churches, government officials, and law enforcement.
  • Professional Conduct:
    • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in all interactions, whether in-person, on social media, or online.
    • Maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries within a community setting
    • Serve as a positive role model for youth and residents
    • Handle sensitive situations with discretion and confidentiality
    • Adhere to organizational policies and standards
  • Residential Expectations:
    • Reside full-time in the assigned Friendship House
    • Maintain the home as a manicured, clean, safe, and welcoming environment for community engagement
    • Demonstrate a visible and consistent presence in the neighborhood
    • Balance accessibility with appropriate personal boundaries
    • Ensure household members align with the expectations of the role. Prior approval must be received before allowing any new residents in the home.
