Our client is a well‑established, family‑owned civil engineering and construction contractor with over 35 years of industry experience. Operating across Wales, the North West and the Midlands, they deliver a comprehensive range of services from groundworks through to full site infrastructure works.
Our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their commercial team. This role will support both tendering and live projects, ensuring robust cost control and successful commercial delivery across civil engineering and construction schemes.
You will work closely with project managers, site teams, clients and supply chain partners to manage costs, mitigate risk and maximise value.
Key Responsibilities Estimating & Tendering- Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions
- Analyse drawings, specifications and contract documentation
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering options
- Assist with post‑tender clarifications and negotiations
- Prepare and manage project budgets and cash flow forecasts
- Measure works and prepare valuations, applications for payment and final accounts
- Assess and manage subcontractor applications and payments
- Manage variations, compensation events and change control
- Monitor and report on project commercial performance
- Work collaboratively with project managers and site teams
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures
- Proven experience in a Quantity Surveyor and/or Estimator role within civil engineering or construction
- Good working knowledge of construction contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT)
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
- Full UK driving licence
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
- Membership of or working towards RICS or CIOB
- Experience working on local authority or framework projects
