Job Description

Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Superintendent for Well-Being & Community Systems. This senior leadership role is responsible for the strategic integration of well‑being, social‑emotional learning (SEL), and community ecosystem partnerships to enhance well‑being for students and staff, using data‑informed practices to ensure that student well‑being is a measurable driver of academic success. The role builds and maintains a robust, culturally proficient support network involving families, businesses, and various interest groups aligned with strategic goals to enhance opportunities and support for student learning experiences.

Organizational Relationship
  • Works alongside the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to ensure SEL is a core component of the Tier I/ Tier II instructional framework.
  • Works collaboratively with principals and other district leaders.
  • Supervises or co‑supervises positions within the district as determined by collective bargaining agreements and/or district organizational needs, including but not limited to the Director of Health, Physical Education, & Family Consumer Science; the Director of Extended Learning; and the Director of Career Technical Education.
  • Supervises or co‑supervises Central Office staff who support this position’s functions, including but not limited to the Director of Alumni Development & Community Relationships.
Key Responsibilities
  • Data‑Informed Practice & Strategic Leadership
    • Establishes and monitors a "Well‑Being Dashboard" utilizing data from the Regional Youth Health Survey, attendance records, disciplinary trends, SEL universal screeners, and other relevant sources to identify systemic needs.
    • Evaluates the efficacy of well‑being interventions and community programs, using data to determine ROI on projects and alternative revenue spends.
    • Prepares data‑rich reports for the School Committee that connect well‑being metrics (e.g., sense of belonging, SEL surveys) to student engagement and achievement.
    • Oversees the K‑12 Health, Physical Education, and Family Consumer Sciences Department to ensure curriculum and programming advance the district’s goals for well‑being.
    • Oversees extended learning programming to enhance programs and curriculum beyond the regular school day and year that support well‑being and evolving community needs.
  • PK‑12 SEL Oversight
    • Provides executive oversight and collaboration with leadership (e.g., assistant superintendents, principals, Director of Counseling & Mental Health Services, counselors, teachers) in the implementation and vertical alignment of Pre‑K–12 Social‑Emotional Learning curricula for Tier I and Tier II.
    • Leads or participates in project work that actively supports the progress of district strategic priorities and goals related to student and staff well‑being.
    • Coordinates and oversees district wide PBIS, SEL curriculum (e.g., Wayfinder), and related initiatives, including supervision of PBIS leads or other educator leadership initiatives and alignment across schools.
    • Collaborates with Central Office leadership to develop, implement, and monitor plans and budgets required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education related to SEL, ensuring coordination of systems, timelines, and reporting requirements.
    • Oversees anti‑bullying training, initiatives, and coordinates responses to student concerns, serving as the Title IX Coordinator.
    • Designs professional development to empower educators to use SEL data to inform instructional delivery and adjust classroom practice.
