September through June each year, with a typical schedule of Fridays 3:30pm - 5:00pm. On school early release days: 12:00pm - 4:00pm.

Summary

The Shrewsbury Public Library is seeking a motivated teen to aid the Teen Librarian in making the Teen Room a welcoming, organized, and fun space for all teen patrons. This role is an ideal entry-level opportunity for someone eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, community-centered environment. If you are between the ages of 14 to 18 years old and want to make a meaningful impact in the community.

A work permit is required.

What You’ll Do
  • Assisting the Teen Librarian in supervising the Teen Room and adjacent areas.
  • Communicating policies and usage guidelines to teen visitors.
  • Assisting at teen events and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Teen Librarian.
What We’re Looking For
  • Between the ages of 14 to 18 years old.
  • A work permit is required for this role.
  • Ability to provide at least a two-year commitment to the position.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on building positive, engaging relationships with teen patrons.
  • Ability to work effectively in a noisy, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and respectfully with library visitors.
  • Desire to work with teens.
Working Conditions
  • Minimal physical effort is required to perform duties under typical library conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands to operate equipment, push or pull book carts weighing up to 50 pounds and reach book shelves with hands and arms.
  • Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents and use a computer. May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
