Sunday Reference Librarian
Location: Shrewsbury Public Library
Schedule: 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm every Sunday from October to May (seasonal; duration may vary with funding)
Pay: $27.06 – $30.00 per hour
Supervisor: Library Manager – Head of Adult Services
We are seeking a dedicated library professional to serve as the heart of our Sunday operations. In this part‑time, seasonal role, you will provide in‑person and electronic reference services, assist patrons with research, guide them through online resources, troubleshoot technology, and support the smooth functioning of the library from opening to closing.
Responsibilities- Perform a variety of reference desk services: assist patrons with reference and information requests, conduct basic research, help with public access catalogs, printers, computers, and online resources.
- Train users on the use of e‑readers, tablets, and other devices.
- Manage bookings of group study rooms and make information referrals.
- Handle issues as they arise in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with Access Services staff, Children’s staff, and the Sunday Supervisor to ensure successful operation of all library services from opening to closing.
- Communicate regularly with the Adult Services team to ensure consistency of reference service between weekdays and Sundays.
- Oversee the work of library pages as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required; ALA‑accredited Master’s in Library and Information Sciences preferred.
- At least two years of professional experience in library reference services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong proficiency with Integrated Library Systems—preferably Evergreen.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in record‑keeping.
- Knowledge of library practices and procedures, and the ability to manage materials effectively.
- Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with colleagues and patrons.
- Self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
