Job Description & How to Apply Below

Shrewsbury Montessori School (SMS) is seeking a warm, dependable, and engaged Extended Day Teacher to join our community for the  school year.

At Shrewsbury Montessori School, we see the child as capable, curious, and worthy of respect. Our Extended Day program is an important part of creating a consistent experience for children throughout their day at school.

Our Extended Day program extends the Montessori experience beyond the traditional school day. We believe that children deserve the same respect, independence, consistency, and sense of belonging throughout their afternoon as they experience during the school day. The Extended Day Teacher creates a safe, welcoming, and purposeful environment where children can unwind, connect with one another, and engage in meaningful activities.

We are looking for someone who will bring warmth, reliability, curiosity, and a genuine respect for children to this role, and who is excited to become part of a collaborative Montessori community.

Responsibilities What You'll Do
  • Provide warm, attentive supervision and maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging environment.
  • Support children's independence, responsibility, and positive peer relationships through clear expectations and respectful guidance.
  • Prepare and maintain a clean, orderly, and inviting environment that reflects SMS's Montessori values.
  • Facilitate purposeful activities, outdoor play, creative exploration, reading, and social connection.
  • Model grace, courtesy, kindness, and respect in interactions with children and colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and communicate relevant observations or concerns with classroom teachers and administrators.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure children are released only to authorized adults.
  • Restore the Extended Day environment at the end of each afternoon and follow all school and EEC requirements.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Warm, patient, dependable, and genuinely enjoys spending time with children.
  • Comfortable working with children across a range of ages and developmental stages.
  • Able to create structure and clear expectations while maintaining a calm and nurturing presence.
  • A strong communicator who works well as part of a collaborative school community.
  • Reliable and able to take responsibility for the care of children and the environment.
  • Committed to treating children with dignity, respect, and kindness.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; associate's degree or equivalent college experience preferred.
  • Must meet or be willing to obtain applicable Massachusetts EEC educational and experience requirements.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
  • Montessori experience or training is welcomed but not required.
Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 2:00-5:30 p.m. We are open to candidates who are available for select days of the week.
