Developing Highways Manager within the Highways Transport and Environmental Maintenance Commissioning Team in Shropshire with £Competitive Pay Hourly. This ongoing position is your ticket to an exciting challenge that involves pioneering efforts to create a better future for Shropshire’s highways and transport networks. Working a full-time schedule of 37 hours per week, with flexible office hours from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, you will be at the forefront of the area’s infrastructure transformation.

What you will do
  • Lead and provide professional advice on Highways Development Control matters ensuring alignment with Shropshire Council’s objectives.
  • Foster economic growth by effectively managing development sites and agreements with local and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the Council at magistrates’ court, public inquiries, and planning meetings to advocate for highways considerations.
  • Ensure value is added to the highway asset by proactively monitoring site performance and inspections.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver a strategic approach that supports the council’s vision for a flourishing county.
  • Manage and maximise Highways Development Control budgets, identifying opportunities for income generation.
  • Engage with developers and agents to facilitate pre-planning discussions, enhancing collaborative development outcomes.
  • Keep abreast of local and international trends in highway design and construction, integrating best practices into Shropshire’s infrastructure projects.
