Job Description & How to Apply Below

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit Band 8a Clinical Psychologists to work in our expanding Shropshire Paediatric Psychology Service, primarily within epilepsy and general paediatrics.

We would consider offering a preceptorship pathway from Agenda for Change Band 7 to 8a, on completion of the required competencies.

The Paediatric Psychology Service provides targeted input into several multi-disciplinary teams across Shropshire and works closely with our local children's community nursing team. We are a welcoming, well-established team of Psychologists, with a shared passion for continuously improving and promoting positive outcomes for children and young people with physical health conditions. This role is well supported by professional leadership structures. The post holders will work closely alongside other qualified Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists, with dedicated admin embedded in the service.

There will be regular opportunities for CPD, paediatric peer supervision, service development and collaborating with psychology colleagues across our Integrated Care System.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role involve providing evidence‑based, psychological assessment, formulation and intervention with children and their families, aimed at reducing distress and promoting positive health and wellbeing outcomes.

The role will also involve working indirectly with healthcare colleagues, sharing psychological skills and approaches and promoting psychologically informed care, through supervision, consultation and multi‑disciplinary team working.

There will be scope to provide supervision and contribute to service audit, evaluation and development projects within the role.

The successful applicant will be a compassionate and committed team worker, with previous experience within paediatric psychology settings and a strong passion for innovative working to make a positive difference to the lives of children and families in this setting. Skills in making psychological theory and approaches accessible to colleagues in other disciplines will be key to this role. This post is advertised at a time of real opportunity for introducing and embedding psychological practice in physical healthcare settings and extending the reach of the service.
