Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Community Neuro Rehab Team

Are you passionate about making a real difference to adults living with neurological conditions? Looking for a role where you'll be supported, valued, and part of a genuinely friendly multi-disciplinary team? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Shropshire Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team is a well-established, specialist service supporting people with acquired brain injury and progressive neurological conditions across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. Our team brings together Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Support Workers and dedicated Administrative staff – all working collaboratively to provide high-quality, person-centred care.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist with experience of working with adults with neurological conditions affecting communication and/or swallowing. You will provide specialist input to patients in outpatient settings and within their own homes, contributing to truly holistic rehabilitation.

This post is ideal for a therapist who has worked with neurological caseloads (including stroke) and is ready to take the next step into a specialist neuro service. Even if you haven't worked in neuro exclusively before, you'll receive regular supervision, mentorship and opportunities to grow your clinical expertise.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist to provide treatment to clients in individual and group settings. You will be responsible for your own clinical caseload and for designing programmes to be delivered by support workers and caregivers as part of your clients' rehabilitation.

As part of this role you will:

  • Provide specialist assessment and management for people with acquired brain injuries and progressive neurological conditions, working with the multi-disciplinary team and other local agencies including families, caregivers, local authority services and third sector organisations
  • Provide specialist management for people with communication difficulties including aphasia, motor speech disorders and cognitive communication difficulties. This will include conversation partner training, developing compensatory strategies, developing self-advocacy skills and impairment-based therapy
  • Contribute to developing new ways of working, alongside the Clinical Lead SLT. For example, further developing telehealth programmes
  • Provide specialist assessment and management for people with dysphagia, including designing and delivering rehabilitation programmes
  • Support the MDT to work effectively with people with communication difficulties including joint sessions and delivering training
  • Work in an interdisciplinary context considering a client's holistic needs and contributing to their overall rehabilitation.
