Summary

The Town of Shrewsbury seeks a conscientious leader to fill the full time position of Assistant Division Manager of Day Time Custodial Operations. As a vital part of the Department of Public Works Public Buildings team, the successful candidate will manage the custodial operations across all public buildings in Town. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and the ability to foster strong and cooperative working relationships.

What

You’ll Do
  • Supervise and coordinate the custodial care, cleaning, and maintenance of municipal and school buildings, grounds, and associated equipment.
  • Supervise up to fifteen full-time employees, along with part-time and seasonal personnel, fostering a productive environment through training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee asset and work order management functions, including logging service calls, tracking labor and materials, and ensuring the timely completion of work orders.
  • Plan and schedule custodial assignments, preventive maintenance activities, and minor renovation projects while inspecting work for quality and compliance.
  • Oversee building access and alarm responses, and assist in coordinating snow and ice control operations to maintain safe access for all facilities.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the School Department and other Town departments to resolve operational issues promptly and professionally.
  • Participate in the procurement of supplies, equipment, and contracted services while contributing to the development and management of the divisional budget.
  • Participate in a four-person on-call rotation to address after-hours emergencies and assess facility-related issues.
What You’ll Bring
  • A High School diploma and at least four years of progressively responsible experience in custodial services, including mandatory supervisory experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern custodial management practices, sanitation standards, and safety compliance requirements.
  • A working knowledge of building systems, such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, to effectively oversee preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
  • The ability to interpret service contracts, monitor vendor performance, and ensure compliance with established specifications.
  • Sound judgment and initiative in addressing operational issues and emergency situations that may not be clearly defined by established procedures.
  • Expertise in communicating clearly and professionally with Town officials, school leadership, contractors, and the public.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and computerized maintenance management or work order systems.
  • The ability to lift or push equipment weighing up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, and operate various power tools and light equipment.
  • A valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license and OSHA 10 certification.
Work Hours & Benefits

Assistant Division Manager – Day Custodial Operations works from a shared office space within the Oak Middle School and spends the majority of working hours traveling to different public buildings in Town. The work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed.
