Apprentice Vehicle Technician (HGV) – Level 3

Join Severn Trent as an Apprentice Vehicle Technician (HGV). We’re looking for passionate apprentices to help us deliver better, sustainable solutions across the UK.

About the Programme

The Apprenticeship Programme blends personal and professional development with hands‑on experience. You will work in our workshop in Shelton, Shrewsbury, gaining exposure to Heavy Goods Vehicles and progressing toward a Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician.

You will study towards becoming a vehicle technician, explore different teams, and have regular 1‑1 meetings with business leads, mentors, and the New Talent Team to discuss your development and career ambitions.

In this three‑year apprenticeship you will:

  • Carry out basic mechanical and electrical tasks using common tools and equipment.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient workshop, adhering to company and legislative processes.
  • Use diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults on HVs.
  • Apply diagnostic procedures and problem‑solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Carry out detailed repairs on vehicles up to 44 tonnes.
  • Triage vehicles and rectify defects on the spot – including tankers.
  • Use industry‑standard and in‑house software.

Duration: 36 months (excluding EPA)

Starting Salary: £22,500

Entry Criteria:
If you don’t already have GCSEs in English and maths, you will need to take functional skills as part of the apprenticeship and achieve a Level 2 prior to completion.

Driving Requirements:
You must have a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle from the start of the apprenticeship.
