Labor and Delivery/Newborn/Postpartum Registered Nurse Job Summary

The Labor and Delivery/Newborn/Postpartum RN will provide compassionate care to mothers and newborns before, during, and after childbirth. This role requires critical thinking skills, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to promoting the health and well‑being of both mother and baby.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Monitor mother and baby's vital signs during labor and delivery
  • Assist with the birthing process and provide emotional support to mothers
  • Educate mothers on newborn care and breastfeeding techniques
  • Perform postpartum assessments on mothers and newborns
  • Administer medications as prescribed by physicians
  • Document all patient interactions and maintain accurate medical records
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients
  • Provide support and guidance to new parents during the postpartum period
    • Qualifications and Skills
  • Valid RN license in the state of practice
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in labor and delivery, newborn, or postpartum nursing
  • Strong understanding of labor and delivery protocols and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in high‑stress situations
  • Knowledge of newborn care practices and breastfeeding techniques
