DepartmentDescription:
Wilson Health's Laboratory Services offers testing for both inpatients and outpatients. Our lab is accredited by the ACHC - Accreditation Commission of Health Care and holds a CLIA Certificate. Our Wilson Health Lab performs hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank testing.
Job Summary:The phlebotomist interprets orders and specimen or test preparation requirements, instructs patients or nursing staff, prepares requisitions, monitors orders for specimen collection, or enters orders and other data into Laboratory Information System.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:- Collects venous and capillary blood specimens, and nasal swabs.
- Must be able to interact with and perform standard specimen collection procedures effectively on neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, understanding and reacting effectively to their individual and unique needs.
- Responsible for communicating with reference laboratory.
- Maintains supply of specimen collection and processing materials.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of phlebotomy work areas and equipment such as workbenches, specimen collection trays, refrigerators and storage sites.
- Responsible for knowing how to collate, route and distribute reports and other correspondence and materials as required.
- Weekend and occasional overtime work is required, as well as coverage of all schedules and shifts where necessary.
- Formal phlebotomy training with certification or comparable program certification (ex. Medical Office Assisting) which includes phlebotomy training.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies during off-hours.
