Technical Support Specialist
Sidney City SD SIDNEY HIGH SCHOOL - Sidney, Ohio
Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Oversees the preservation of technology equipment at the assigned site(s). Suggests rules and operating procedures to ensure the proper use and care of technology resources. Works with staff to address equipment security.
- Receives, inspects, installs, and tests new equipment and software. Ensures compliance with all licensing agreements.
- Works with the maintenance department to arrange for the installation of electrical outlets and wiring. Installs network wiring and connections.
- Maintains an up-to-date inventory of technology resources. Prepares support documentation (e.g., location, date, install, upgrades, etc.).
- Assumes wide area networks (WAN) responsibilities as directed by the network administrator. Troubleshoots and repairs hardware and software problems. Installs, re-installs, configures, and updates workstation software/hardware.
- Performs preventive maintenance and routine cleaning of the equipment. Maintains an inventory of replacement parts. Makes minor repairs. Keeps work areas orderly. Ensures that equipment is operational and available for use as needed.
- Promptly responds to and completes service tickets. Logs all information accurately in the ticketing system.
- Discards outdated or nonfunctional equipment following approved procedures for the disposal of fixed assets. Maintains a salvage pool of useful parts.
- Strives to develop rapport with students, staff, parents, and the public. Responds to requests and complaints promptly and tactfully. Offers and accepts constructive suggestions diplomatically. Respects the personal confidences and privacy needs of individuals.
- Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
- Participates in staff meetings and in-service training as directed.
- Pursues personal goals to improve future performance. Reviews literature and participates in a variety of activities to keep current with advances in technology. Maintains licensure and certification requirements.
- Serves as a role model for staff and students. Demonstrates personal integrity, impartiality, respect, and courtesy.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s degree in computer science or closely related technology training is preferred.
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
- Provides documented evidence of a clear criminal record.
- Training and experience using computers and related technologies.
- Expertise in hardware/software troubleshooting and repair techniques. A+ certification is preferred.
- Expertise in the use of current Microsoft products and web browsers.
- Commitment to continuing education to keep current with technological advances.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work with students, faculty, and the community.
- Demonstrates professionalism and exemplary personal conduct.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for the technology program.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the application and use of educational technology.
- Works cooperatively to support a successful team effort.
- Uses interpersonal skills to promote a favorable image of the school district.

- Intervenes to avert problem situations and resolve conflicts.

- Lifts, carries, and/or moves technology supplies and equipment.
- Reads and interprets regulations, manuals, instructions, diagrams, etc.
- Climbs and works from a ladder or other equipment that requires balancing skills.
- Works in confined spaces that limit physical movement.
- Travels to meetings and work assignments.
- Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.
- Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
- Interaction with disruptive and/or unruly individuals.
- Exposure to student commotion.
- Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
- Duties require extended time using computer terminals and keyboards.
- Duties may require considerable telephone contact and paperwork.
- Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
- Duties may require working during the evening and/or weekend.
- Duties may require operating power tools.
- Exposure to electrical hazards.
- Exposure to airborne particulates, fumes, and odors.
- Exposure to cleaning solvents and chemical vapors.
