Employment Status

Working Hours

40 hours a week (80 hours per pay period)

Shift

2nd Shift: 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.; some flexibility in working hours is required.

Weekend Rotation

Every 3rd weekend and every 3rd holiday – excellent attendance is required.

Position Summary

Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipes, and electrical systems in the hospital by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities General Maintenance
  • Performs special tasks as assigned, e.g., snow removal, emergency and routine repairs.
  • Conducts building checks as required and understands the operation of equipment being checked.
  • Performs preventive maintenance according to schedules and the quality of the PM guide.
  • Handles floor calls in a timely and courteous manner; replaces faucet washers, plunges drains, and operates drain cleaning equipment properly; troubleshoots and repairs patient beds; performs electrical checks on patient equipment.
  • Fills in for switchboard operator during breaks.
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from managers, staff, patients, patient families, and the general public across age groups from pediatric to geriatric.
  • Provides support to projects that require assistance.
  • Demonstrates strong customer‑service skills; prioritizes work to meet patient needs first.
  • Shows excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Is self‑directed and uses critical‑thinking skills to make decisions.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by the Plant Operations Director/Manager.
Minor Carpentry
  • Familiar with basic building materials, hand and power tools, and power woodworking equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to work safely and assist carpenters or other assigned personnel with major projects.
  • Builds walls, installs doors, hangs drywall, and performs minor woodworking projects.
Minor Electric
  • Familiar with and demonstrates ability to work safely with 110 V circuits and wiring components.
  • Uses test instruments such as multimeter, amprobe, and current‑leakage test meter.
  • Installs 110 V branch circuits, runs conduit, pulls wire, chooses proper wire sizes, and devises branch circuits.
Minor Plumbing
  • Performs minor plumbing repairs, e.g., leaky faucet repairs, sink drain leaks, toilets, and urinal leak repairs.
  • Demonstrates ability to solder copper pipe joints, do basic pipe threading, and understand basic pipe assembly methods.
  • Operates drain‑cleaning equipment and uses drain‑cleaning chemicals safely.
Minor Painting
  • Familiar with all types of commonly used paints and wood finishers.
  • Applies paints and stains neatly and professionally.
  • Hangs drywall and prepares surfaces to a ready‑to‑finish grade.
  • Cares for brushes, rollers, trowels, and other tools used in the project.
