Position Reports toChief Financial Officer
SUMMARYResponsibilities for the direction, supervision, evaluation and management of the following areas:
Purchasing, Receiving, Linen Distribution, and Storeroom/Mailroom.
Responsible for all personnel actions as they affect departmental personnel including:
- Evaluating employee work performance annually.
- Orienting employees to their work so that they know what is expected of them.
- Training and educating employees so as to ensure high levels of quality and productivity.
Responsible for Materials Management fiscal actions, careful use of hospital resources, and upholding the Prudent Buyer Principle and Cost Containment Philosophy:
- Directs the total distribution of goods and services.
- Approves prime supplier contracts for major supplies and equipment with emphasis on standardization and contract compliance.
- Supports and represents hospital in group purchasing efforts.
- Oversees the inventory process.
Maintain an active role in the hospital cost containment by seeking alternative, less expensive methods of providing service, eliminating wasteful and unnecessary procedures or activities, carefully evaluating new programs and/or services in terms of cost effectiveness and critical need of service.
Prepare and maintain the Capital Budgeting process by: recording requests, reviewing requests with the internal Capital Budget Committee, preparing final recommendations to be presented to the Finance Committee of the Board, scheduling approximate acquisition dates with the Chief Financial Officer, and procuring equipment in a timely fashion using prudent purchasing practices.
Serves in a leadership role for the Value Analysis Committee and serves on other committees as directed.
Evaluate and approve all service agreements.
Preparation of an annual budget for all departments within Materials Management. The budget shall address the capital needs, personnel, supplies and other departmental expenses.
Responsible for formal development, implementation and publication of departmental policies and procedures.
Interprets and executes personnel and hospital policies.

Minimum RequirementsBachelor Degree or equivalent experience, 3‑5 years of hospital materials management experience preferred. Supervisory experience required.
Technical SkillsMust have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
OtherDemonstrated negotiating skills.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIESSupervises employees in the Purchasing, Receiving, Materials, Linen Distribution, and Storeroom/Mailroom. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these areas.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
