Reporting to the Materials Manager, the Material Planner is responsible for the procurement of goods and/or raw materials, supports cost‑down initiatives, payment terms and supplier contracts, and ensures no delays to production.
Responsibilities- Responsible for all purchasing functions related to the procurement of goods and/or raw materials as assigned, including order placement and follow up.
- Negotiate lead times with vendors and resolve daily supplier issues.
- Expedite orders to ensure no delays to production, attend daily production shortage meetings.
- Review material quantities and dates required, determine accurate start and completion dates, and communicate any issues to management.
- Support and participate in business improvements including Lean and 5S activities as required.
- Plan and place material purchase orders to ensure material flow to the plant is in line with the customer demand/company plan (MPS/MRP), using schedules, consignment stock, Kanban, and other order systems as required.
- Investigate and approve Supplier Invoice Issues.
- Actively manage Supplier Delivery performance through KPI reviews with critical suppliers.
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required within the scope of the role.
- High School Diploma with 7+ years of experience.
- 3+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, purchasing, or a related position.
- 1+ year of supplier follow‑up and execution ownership.
- Basic Excel proficiency (not advanced formulas) for 1+ year.
- ERP experience: SAP or Oracle for 1+ year.
- Proven materials management and purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Track record of hitting inventory reduction targets and project implementation.
- Experience with scheduling, MRP, MPS and consignment stocking.
- Proactive approach and initiative in problem solving.
- Effective communication and diplomatic interface with all levels of the organization and external suppliers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle or preferably SAP.
- Purchasing or Material Certifications and/or membership.
- Procurement experience for assembly manufacturing or distribution.
- Full‑time, Onsite.
The pay range for this role is $64,000–$78,000.
