Alverno Heights Academy Lower School is seeking a positive, energetic, and collaborative individual to serve as a First Grade Teaching Assistant/Instructional Aide.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The First Grade Teaching Assistant works closely with the lead classroom teacher to support student learning, small-group instruction, classroom routines, and the overall educational experience of our first-grade students.

Responsibilities

The First Grade Teaching Assistant will:

• Support the lead teacher during whole-group and small-group instruction
• Work with individual students and small groups in reading, phonics, writing, and mathematics
• Assist with classroom management, transitions, and daily routines
• Help prepare instructional materials and classroom activities
• Provide additional support for students with varying learning needs
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other activities as assigned
• Assist with the integration of classroom technology
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with teachers and school staff
• Help maintain a safe, organized, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment
• Support the mission, values, and faith-centered community of Alverno Heights Academy

Qualifications and Desired Skills

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience working with elementary-aged children, particularly students in the primary grades
• Demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a positive attitude
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills e comfortable using educational technology
• Be able to support differentiated instruction and diverse learners
• Work effectively as part of a collaborative teaching team
• Demonstrate strong organizational and classroom-management skills
• Be dependable, proactive, and committed to ongoing professional growth

Experience with early literacy, phonics, and foundational mathematics instruction is preferred.

• An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or college coursework in education, child development, psychology, or a related field
• Experience working with kindergarten through second-grade students
• Experience supporting early literacy, phonics, writing, and foundational mathematics
• Experience working with diverse learners and differentiated instruction
• Experience supporting students in small-group instructional settings
• Experience with educational technology and digital learning tools
• Previous experience as a teaching assistant, instructional aide, paraprofessional, tutor, or classroom volunteer

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
