Position Summary

The Associate Faculty of Humanities provides an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing instruction for a diverse student population. Instruction is provided via various media, including face-to-face classes, synchronous teaching through a live-streaming platform, and online throughout Cochise County and our entire services area.

Essential Functions

Eligibility for this remote role requires Arizona residency.

Note:
Cochise College requires a post offer, pre-employment background screening of all employees.

Compensation: $900 per equated credit unit

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom, laboratory, or online environment
  • Develops, prepares, and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses, and plans for students’ educational and social needs
  • Completes all college and department reports on or before the due date/time
  • Responds to communications from students and colleagues within 48 hours
  • Collaborates with other faculty and staff in the assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • Maintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the department
  • Resolves issues relevant to area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s degree in Humanities, Cultural Studies, Art, English, Theatre, or Film or a master's degree and 18 graduate credits in any of the disciplines listed from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting education and the Humanities program
  • Knowledge of research-based adult learning principles
  • Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional approaches
  • Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications and Learning Management Software
  • Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students’ needs and progress
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
  • Ability to effectively identify and analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve using independent judgement and decision-making processes while maintaining strict confidentiality related to sensitive information
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public
Work Environment

Work is primarily performed under general supervision in a typical classroom or laboratory setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, evening and weekend work may be required.

Physical Requirements

Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.

Sedentary Work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting the majority of the time; walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met

Mental Application:
Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.
