The Student - Art Lab Aide is responsible for assisting instructors with 3D Design/sculpture classes, studio organization and other necessary tasks.

Note:
Cochise College requires a post‑offer, pre‑employment background screening of all employees.
- Assists with studio organization and cleaning.
- Assists with mixing glazes, preparing reclaim clay and loading and unloading of kilns.
- Assists with supervised open‑studio work‑time and assures students are following college procedures.
- Interacts and communicates with the public and other employees in a courteous and professional manner.
- Keeps art area and other assigned areas and equipment neat and orderly.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Employees are expected to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, employees must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public. Employees will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
Education and Experience Requirements- Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer.
- Possess and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher.
- Students attending Cochise College on an F-1 Visa require full‑time enrollment with a minimum of 12 credits per semester and six credits in the summer.
- Prior experience in ceramics and clay work.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of utilization of art lab equipment and machinery.
- Skill in basic clay processing.
- Ability to report for work on time and notify the appropriate individual in advance if unable to work.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
- Ability to multi‑task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public.
Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office, classroom, or setting with appropriate climate controls.
Physical RequirementsEssential functions of this position require lifting, manual dexterity, and ability to communicate. Medium work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle.
Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem‑solving skills are important.
