Background Investigator

• Complete 6–7 week full-time new Investigator training, virtually and in person, to obtain certification in Federal Investigative Standards
• Conduct daily travel for in-person background investigations assessing employment suitability for individuals requiring access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information
• Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family
• Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities
• Type and report obtained information clearly and concisely using a government-issued computer system
• Work independently while collaborating with a team of investigators and a Field Manager

• 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered
• Experience conducting federal background investigations preferred
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance
• Active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication preferred
• U.S. citizenship
• Daily local and out-of-area travel required
• Home office required
• Temporary Duty Assignments/remote travel of 14–30 days away from home may be required
• Must reside within the stated mileage requirement
• Valid driver's license and full-time use of reliable transportation
• Sufficient motor vehicle insurance
• Accurate and efficient typing capabilities; 40+ WPM recommended
• Ability to work with multiple computer programs concurrently
• Ability to speak for extended periods and hear sufficiently for in-person and telephone communication
• Ability to record, read, and transcribe words and numbers accurately
• Proficient grammar and writing skills
• Professional interaction, attendance, punctuality, and attention to detail
• High level of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity
• Professional attire
• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long periods, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment under remote supervision
• Organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills
• Proficient writing and communication skills

Demonstrates expertise in conducting federal background investigations, including interviewing and record searches, while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and ethics. Proficient in typing, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
