Special Education Personal Aide Wing Elementary

Reports To:

Building Principal and Assigned Classroom Teacher

General

Summary:

To assist the student with personal and instructional needs throughout the school day and to provide a well-organized, smooth functioning environment in which the student can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists student in accessing transportation if needed.
  • Provides personal care to student with special daily living needs (e.g. toileting, feeding, physical management) if needed
  • Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
  • Refers problems to professional staff.
  • Works with student in schools and in community sites and outings.
  • Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
  • Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives.
  • Provides clerical assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes.)
  • Assists with the supervision of student during recess, lunchroom, and on the playground.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
  • Reinforces instructional and behavioral objectives for children.
  • Exhibits the ability to follow teacher directions and written plans.
  • Has the ability to work in a team setting and be flexible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education Level - high school diploma
  • Working well with students & Ability to follow the instruction of the teacher(s) to whom the aide is assigned.
  • Other requirements Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education.
  • Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills.
  • Computer knowledge and assistive technology.
