Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Maintain and repair mechanical/electrical/boiler systems throughout the facility; execute capital projects (installation, dismantling of equipment) and undertake various high-level maintenance tasks independently to ensure timely production processes.
Expected hours of work: 40 hours a week with a varied shift schedule of 8-10 hour shifts, occasional overtime and weekend hours. No travel required.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Reassemble machines after repair or maintenance completion.
- Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and detect issues.
- Inspect or test damaged machine parts, mark defective areas, or advise supervisors.
- Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment according to specific procedures.
- Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments according to production requirements.
- Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or other equipment.
- Record production, repair, and machine maintenance activities.
- Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair.
- Set up and operate machines and adjust controls to regulate process conditions.
- Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other materials between work areas using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
- Collect and discard worn machine parts and other refuse to maintain machinery and work areas.
- Clean machines and machine parts using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
- Adjust, install, fabricate, and modify equipment to maintain or improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Comply with and participate in regulatory, Carlisle, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards (PSM, safety protocols, COS).
- Troubleshoot control systems, servo drives, motors, HMIs, and related equipment.
- Calibrate controls.
- Maintain and enhance electrical and PLC systems.
- Provide training to Maintenance Technicians I & II.
- Articulate machine issues to vendors/engineers and resolve technical questions.
- Handle and audit preventative maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of measuring gauges such as tape and other measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of various hand and power tools.
- Prior experience operating a range of maintenance equipment.
- Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized terminology.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of basic math, reading, and writing.
- Ability to work under pressure to complete assigned tasks in a stressful environment.
- Boiler operator certification or ability to obtain boiler certification.
- Working knowledge of electrical codes including NEMA, NFPA 70E, and Arc Flash.
- Industrial electrical AC/DC troubleshooting skills, including use of electrical instrumentation (megohmmeter).
- Complete knowledge of all plant equipment (level III).
- Ability to use hand and portable tools, gas and arc welder, forklift, pickup truck, testing equipment, tape measure, and computer systems (shop floor and ERP).
- Required:
- Education – High School diploma or GED required; technical education preferred.
- Three to five (3-5) years of related maintenance experience.
- Previous experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, and boiler maintenance preferred.
- Mechanical background with rotating hydraulic and pneumatic systems; electrical/mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- PLC experience.
- Fast-paced manufacturing environment with exposure to ambient/outside temperatures, dust, noise, and pinch points.
- Exposure to hazardous mechanical, electrical, and chemical substances/equipment.
- Confined spaces.
Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, climb, walk, stand, sit, and operate machinery or power tools regularly. Working in extreme temperatures and performing repetitive motion (wrists, hands, fingers) are required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Used:- Eye and hearing protection required at all times on the production floor.
- Flame resistant rated maintenance uniform.
- Other PPE as defined by management within the assigned area.
This position offers a sign-on bonus of $3,000 paid in three installments: $1,000 at 90 days, $1,000 at 180 days, and $1,000 at 270 days.
