Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide person-centered support to a male consumer in his home. In this role at Arkansas Support Network, you will play an essential part in enhancing the consumer’s quality of life by delivering individualized support that respects his personal choices, as well as the choices of his family and guardian, encourages independence, and builds meaningful relationships.
This consumer has a very gentle and sweet personality, with very few, if any, negative behaviors. He is soft spoken, funny and someone who is enjoyable to be around. He is extremely orderly and neat, has a place for everything and expects everything in its place. He enjoys old, classic TV shows and country music, train watching and train rides, arts and crafts, games, puzzles, movies and spending time with family and friends.
- Personal Care Assistance:
Support consumer with daily personal care routines, including grooming, bathing, shaving, dressing, and hygiene, overseeing taking medication, administering daily foot soaks, and ensuring comfort and dignity. - Activities of Daily Living:
Assist with household tasks, meal preparation, and maintaining a safe and clean living environment. - Socialization and Engagement:
Encourage and facilitate social interactions and community activities, promoting social skills and connections. Actively participate in activities that align with consumer interests and preferences. - Support Development and Implementation:
Collaborate with consumer and guardian to understand their personal goals and preferences, utilizing strengths‑based strategies to develop supportive approaches that respect their choices. - Communication and Documentation:
Maintain clear and accurate records of daily activities and any notable changes in conditions or preferences to ensure continuity of care. - Empowerment and Advocacy:
Advocate for consumer needs and preferences, empowering them to make decisions about their care and lifestyle that align with their vision for a good life.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A degree or experience in related fields is a plus.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks.
- Dedicated attitude to provide support to people with disabilities.
