Dow has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Production Engineer located in Orange, TX.
About you and this roleThe Electrical Production Engineer, as part of Dow Sabine Operations, is responsible for the optimization, troubleshooting, and design of a wide variety of electrical equipment. This involves time in the field ensuring that the installed electrical equipment contributes to safe, environmentally sound, reliable, and profitable operations.
Responsibilities- Provide competent coverage for issues concerning low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems including switch gear, motor control centers, transformers, VFDs, UPS Systems, DC Systems, and electrical safety.
- Maintain close contact with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project development to identify and implement electrical equipment repairs and reliability improvements.
- Develop initial scope, design, and specifications for industrial electrical systems such as motors, breakers, relays, generators, substations, buses, starters, transformers, and other industrial electrical equipment (480V to 138kV).
- Monitor system performance, capabilities, load flow, and anomalies and develop recommendations for improvements to reliability and capability.
- Provide technical support for large, medium voltage generators, excitation and protection systems.
- Assist in developing maintenance scopes and planning for major generator turn-arounds. Provide technical support for electrical equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Initiate and implement small projects to improve reliability and capabilities of electrical systems. Coordinate larger projects for new or replacement equipment among engineering, maintenance, and operations.
- Oversee commissioning, startup assistance, and support of electrical systems with maintenance personnel.
- Serve as an electrical technology expert liaison between project engineers, plant maintenance, and operations personnel.
- Supports and interfaces with business teams to maintain and improve electrical reliability while reducing maintenance costs.
- Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
- Ability to understand electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
- Demonstrated industry experience with power systems as an Electrical Engineer.
- Work experience in operating units/plants/facilities and awareness of surroundings from a safety and environmental point of view.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.
- Work at heights, climbs stairs and ladders.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
- Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.
- Work in an area with hazardous materials.
- Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.
- Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs. (This typically accommodates individuals who weigh 285 or less).
- Proficiency using electrical modeling software for short-circuit, load flow, coordination, and arc-flash studies.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at different levels of engineering, design, maintenance, and management.
- Ability to work with internal customers as well as suppliers and repair facilities of electrical equipment.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel.
