Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning for Communication, English, Ethics, Humanities, Literature, Philosophy or Rhetoric courses.
Duties
* Teach synchronous and/or asynchronous courses using current technology applicable to the discipline which may include face to face, online, and/or video-conferenced courses as needed.
* Collaborate with Humanities faculty on course design and appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
* Ensure course content, activities, and assignments are established. Course content includes, but is not limited to, syllabus, course policies, video lectures, assignments and instructions, grading rubrics, etc.
* Meet all designated course instruction guidelines, including but not limited to, posting weekly announcements with relevant information, monitoring/participating in discussions, grading student coursework, providing students timely and specific feedback, responding to student inquiries within 24 hours during the work week, maintaining weekly virtual office hours, and other requirements as established by the Humanities Department.
* Maintain frequent and open communication with the Humanities Chair, faculty and staff through email, mail, telephone, and any other media deemed appropriate. Be available at least once a semester to attend a virtual meeting with the Chair.
* Submit mid-term and end of term grades by required deadline according to WNMU procedures.
* Maintains a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment that supports success by enforcing WNMU policies to include student code of conduct policies, and those established by the Humanities Department and Office of Academic Affairs.
* Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU and the Humanities Department mission and vision statements.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Background
Master's degree in English, Humanities, Journalism, Literature, Philosophy, Rhetoric, Writing or related discipline and experience in a related discipline required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Job Knowledge
Teaching online courses. Working with under prepared students in a small classroom environment. Experience in a supervisory position. Background in current evidence-based teaching strategies and innovative approaches to pedagogy will be an asset. Must be able to adapt to instructional needs of the department depending on circumstances. Must be knowledgeable of university policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy.
Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)
Normal office, may travel some within the community when needed. May be required to transport normal office equipment and materials. Ability to comprehend and work with a variety of information from various sources. Able to clearly communicate with a diverse population of individuals. Ability to compose correspondence and reports and remain in a sedentary position for prolonged periods of time. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
