Registered NURSE; RN OR Circulator Nurse

Description

The Operating Room Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, evaluating, and delivering safe, appropriate care within their scope of practice to patients in the Operating Room.

Essential Functions

• Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans for patients using the nursing process.
• Complete and document patient assessments, verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site.
• Evaluate patient condition, lab values, and test data; communicate concerns to the OR team.
• Conduct surgical "time outs" to confirm patient, procedure, and site before surgery.
• Administer and document medications safely, ensuring proper labeling.
• Circulate during surgeries, demonstrating knowledge of protocols and procedures.
• Prepare, label, and document specimens accurately.
• Follow sterilization protocols, document procedures, and complete charges.
• Use safe practices to minimize injury, utilize PPE, and monitor team performance.
• Ensure availability of supplies and equipment, minimize waste.
• Perform end-of-day cleanup, restocking, and case pulling.
• Plan daily activities to ensure room and patient readiness for early start times.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment, facilitate surgical schedule completion.
• Report safety hazards, adhere to infection control policies, and respond to emergency protocols.
• Participate in departmental meetings, quality assurance, and policy development.
• Report on and off duty as scheduled; take call as assigned.
• Train, educate, supervise, and evaluate students from affiliated organizations.

Education and Training Requirements

• Current RN license in New Mexico or multi-state license.
• Current BLS (AHA) certification upon hire.
• ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.
• PALS preferred.
• One year of OR, Pre-OP, PACU, or related experience preferred.
