The Assistant Ski Patrol Director plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation for guests and staff at Red River Ski Area. Reporting directly to the Patrol Director, this position helps lead all aspects of emergency response, mountain safety, and departmental operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform all duties of a regular Ski Patroller
- Function as the on-site leader in the Patrol Director's absence, maintaining operational standards.
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Schedule and execute training, ensuring patrollers are well-equipped to perform their duties efficiently and safely.
- Assist with personnel functions, including performance evaluations and disciplinary actions, in conjunction with the Director.
- Perform safety training for other departments such as lift evacuation
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry-leading techniques and standards
- Demonstrate excellent guest and employee relation skills: ability to be pleasant, courteous and actively friendly with everyone.
- Emphasize the importance of guest relations to the team, mediate guest disputes, and foster positive relationships with other departments
- Promote and enforce "Your Responsibility Code" and all provisions of the New Mexico Ski Safety Act.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining all ski patrol equipment and materials.
- Assist in coordinating end-of-season removal, storage, and inventory of materials.
- Maintain accurate records of all incident reports.
- Collaborate with other mountain departments to address safety concerns.
- Represent RRSA in industry associations.
- Perform any other duties as asked for or required
- Minimum 3 years related ski patrol experience. Prior supervisory/leadership experience is preferred
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of physical conditioning, endurance, and strength.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities for extended periods of time.
- Ability to read and interpret documents used by the RRSP and RRSA.
- Must be able to remain calm and effective in high-stress emergency situations.
- Must be able to ski while carrying cumbersome gear, lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Excellent skiing skills, with the ability to safely handle yourself and a toboggan under any mountain conditions.
- Regularly work with machinery and moving mechanical parts and tools.
- Ability to work extended periods indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including cold, wind, snow, and sun exposure.
- Lift heavy weight, standing, climbing and skiing will be required daily under any and all-weather conditions
- Must be available to work holidays and weekends
- High School Degree or equivalent.
- Valid NSP Outdoor Emergency Care card or its equivalent.
- Current CPR certification.
- NSP/APP involvement in both organizations to further educate in all aspects of mtn ops/industry standards.
