Mechanic I Hourly Pay: $23.91
Schedule:
Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 7:00 A.M.
- 4:00 P.M.
Definition: Under general supervision, will perform skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.
Essential Functions- Perform wide range of gas engine, diesel engine, and heavy equipment inspections. Work from written orders, manuals, directives, instructions, and assistance from foreman to perform tasks.
- Per work orders or assignments, perform necessary repair or maintenance work.
- Perform basic electrical circuitry, maintenance and repair.
- Respond to service calls in the event of an emergency. Travel to site location of vehicle or equipment to be repaired.
- In working with heavy parts, utilize mechanical assistance to jack up the equipment and make repair work easier.
- In performing various repair work, use hand and power tools.
- Detect and report faulty equipment operation, defective parts, and defective materials needed to perform repair work.
- Consult with supervisor as needed concerning parts or repair projects.
- Maintain work area and tools in safe, clean condition. Follow prescribed safety practices and eliminate safety hazards as much as possible.
- Must be able to keep records, work orders, hours, mileage, oil samples, etc.
- Operate repaired vehicle or equipment to verify performance to specifications.
- Employee must perform all duties with minimal supervision. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Realign and balance wheels.
- Perform road tests to check work performed.
- Requisition materials and parts needed for repairs.
- Must be able to ask questions of foreman, and listen to and follow directions in English.
- Must be able to communicate verbally with co-workers.
- Must be able to read accurately all gauges in vehicles and on equipment, and a correct judgment regarding necessary repairs.
- Must remain up-to-date on use of new tools, machines, or methods used in repair of gas engines, diesel engines, and heavy equipment.
- Must be able to read and understand manuals and interpret scale drawings in order to visualize necessary repairs.
- Must be able to apply basic math skills to calculate object dimensions and material amounts needed for repair work.
- Three (3) years mechanical repair on all types of gas and diesel equipment. >
- Familiarity with use of measuring equipment and tools needed for engine and equipment repair.
- Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver license.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Technical school can be substituted for one year of experience.
- With assistance of bar, must be able to lift tires for heavy equipment to an upright position. Such tires are estimated to weigh 180 pounds.
- Must be able to lift up to approximately 80 pounds from ground to waist level, as needed.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level, up to an estimated 15 times per day.
- Must be able to stand/walk for up to four hours at one time, and up to eight hours total per day.
- Must be able to climb onto and off of, and crawl about heavy equipment, as needed.
- Must be able to remain in a prone position for long periods of time while working on vehicles once every two to three weeks.
- Must be able to crouch and kneel for up to four hours at one time, and up to eight hours total per day.
- Must be able to bend at the waist, and twist/rotate as necessary, in excess of 100 times total per day.
- Must be able to work with arms bent or extended for up to four hours at one time, and up to eight hours total per day.
- Must be able to push/pull with arms, with a force in excess of 50 pounds, as needed.
- Must be able to use feet and legs in the operation of vehicles and equipment. Must be able to push vehicles and equipment with assistance of legs, as needed.
- Must be able to maintain balance while climbing in and out of equipment cabs, or in and out of other vehicles to be repaired.
- Must be able to use hands and fingers to grasp/manipulate equipment and materials needed to perform essential duties.
