Ambulance Driver (Prn

General Description

Under supervision of the EMS Director, or under direction of the Department Medical Director, or one of his physician delegates (ER Physicians), the EMS driver will maintain a volunteer on‑call status for their response area. Whenever the local service receives an emergency call, the driver will respond to the local EMS station and respond to the emergency scene with a minimum of one EMT.

The driver will respond accordingly to all Federal, State, and Departmental rules, regulations, and guidelines for emergency response. Once on scene the driver will assist with scene management—moving equipment, ensuring patient and crew safety, and operating the ambulance safely. The driver will help transport patients to GRMC, assist in patient care if needed (e.g., CPR), and upon completion of the emergency response will clean, restock, wash, refuel, and prepare the ambulance for the next response.

• Respond to emergency calls as needed
• Provide Basic Life Support & transport the sick and injured
• Supply & wash ambulances as needed or directed
• Clean bays and station per operations policy
• Test & check all equipment to ensure readiness
• Attend regular EMS training that is mandated
• Attend department meetings regularly
• Drive safely and defensively
• Possess safety orientation
• Work effectively as part of a team and respond constructively to criticism

• High School Diploma Required
• Current Basic Life Support (AHA)
• Valid New Mexico Driver's License at class "D" or above
• Meet insurance requirement to drive hospital vehicles
• Pass a DOT physical
• Vehicle Extrication Preferred
• Complete all EMS department training and orientation requirements within the initial employment period
• Bilingual in Spanish beneficial
