About the Role

Our client, a growing government contractor, is seeking a detail‑driven Staff Accountant to support day‑to‑day accounting operations with a strong emphasis on accounts payable and payroll administration. This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting professional who enjoys owning critical transactional processes while also contributing to month‑end activities, journal entries and special projects. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and support the accounting function that values accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

+ Manage the full lifecycle of accounts payable, including invoice intake, coding, verification, resolution of discrepancies, and timely processing.

+ Ensure all invoices comply with company policies, contract terms, and applicable government contracting requirements.

+ Maintain vendor records, monitor aging reports, and support weekly payment runs.

+ Serve as a key point of contact for vendor inquiries and internal stakeholders regarding AP matters.

Payroll Administration

+ Prepare, review, and process payroll on a recurring basis, ensuring accuracy of hours, rates, deductions, and timesheet approvals.

+ Reconcile payroll reports and coordinate with HR on updates, changes, and employee questions.

+ Support audit readiness by maintaining organized, compliant documentation for payroll cycles.

General Accounting & Month-End Close

+ Assist the Accounting Manager with journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for month-end.

+ Contribute to closing activities such as accrual preparation, variance analysis, and documentation of supporting work papers.

+ Maintain accurate and complete records that support financial reporting and compliance.

Ad Hoc Projects & Department Support

+ Collaborate with the Accounting Manager on special projects, process improvements, and system enhancements.

+ Provide backup support across the accounting team during workload spikes or critical deadlines.

+ Support internal and external audit requests with timely, well‑organized documentation.

Requirements

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

+ 2-4 years of accounting experience;

+ Government contracting experience

+ Costpoint, Unanet or JAMIS experience is a plus.

+ Strong understanding of accounts payable and payroll fundamentals.

+ Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and comfort managing high‑volume tasks.

+ Ability to work in a deadline‑driven environment and collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.

+ Commitment to accuracy, professionalism, and maintaining confidentiality.
