Company Overview

Camp Aristotle is a unique summer camp program that offers full-day and half-day options for students in primary and secondary education. Camp Aristotle offers a socially-based curriculum with rotating opportunities that can include some of the following on a rotational basis each year: art, adventure, coding, comics, creating, exploring, gardening, puzzles, escape rooms, movie creation, news broadcasting, photography, music appreciation, space exploration, fantastic beasts, gaming, science, theater, and more.

Social learning/pragmatics, executive functioning support, and self-regulation development are integrated throughout the curriculum. Many students at Camp Aristotle experience challenges associated with High Functioning Autism, Anxiety-Related Disorders, ADHD, NVLD, Sensory Processing, and Expressive & Receptive Communication Challenges; however, not all campers have a formal diagnosis.

Overview

We are seeking summer camp instructional assistants. Instructional assistants will work as teams in a collaborative environment with teachers and other related services providers. Staff are expected to work all 4 weeks. This is an hourly position. Staff are paid for only the hours they work on site.

Responsibilities
  • supporting the teacher with planning and implementing daily lessons and activities based on weekly themes
  • attending staff meetings
  • Arrive on time and remain through the end of the day (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Participate in Student Support Teams
  • Contribute to weekly newsletters and parent communications
  • Collaborate with Teacher, Camp Director and summer staff to ensure a safe, productive environment
  • Collect data based on point sheets, attendance and contribute to anecdotal observational descriptions for parent communications
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom and school building
  • Attend training for verbal de-escalation, First Aid, Auburn Summer Camp Model and behavior management
  • Complete forms for fingerprint clearance and CPS clearance
  • Must be comfortable working a diversity of children who many exhibit dysregulatory behaviors (screaming, swearing, hitting, eloping and other low to moderate level disruptive behaviors)
  • Must maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times
  • Staff can be reassigned on a as needed basis within camp based on the needs of students and staffing
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or coursework toward bachelor’s preferred
  • Track record of successful camp experience or other work with above described children
  • Experience with ABA and/or social learning training is a plus
  • Sound understanding of, and sensitivity to, children and adolescents with special learning challenges, sensory issues and communication challenges
  • Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and/or NVLD preferred
  • Commitment to professional excellence, collaboration with team members, punctuality, and attendance
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Enthusiastic about the opportunity to teach students with social and communication challenge
  • Ability to be objective and fair
  • Willingness to engage safely, effectively and objectively to students, many who exhibit dysregulation, aggression, and elopement. Understanding of non-verbal de-escalation strategies
Posted Salary Range

Starting from USD $18.00/Hr.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to run short distances and move swiftly in response to student needs, including bending, kneeling, and crouching
  • Ability to lift and assist students with mobility challenges, often requiring the handling of up to 50 pounds or more
  • Skill in managing fine motor tasks, such as helping students with writing, manipulating small objects, or using adaptive devices
  • Ability to operate a computer or tablet for up to 8 hours daily
  • Capacity to remain calm and composed during physically and emotionally demanding situations, ensuring student safety and well-being
