Job Description
FY27:
Para educator Level I, Special Education (6 hours) & Lunch Hour Aide (1 hour), 7 hours per day, 10 months, Greencastle Elementary School. Ad closes 6/15/26.
At the direction of the principal, this para educator performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well‑being to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). The work is focused on facilitating the mastery of grade‑level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards. Students supported at this level are typically in general education classes throughout the school day and may be pulled out for individualized or small‑group instruction.
All new para educators are hired at a grade 13 and have the opportunity to promote to a grade 14 after successfully completing the six‑month probationary period and the required number of training hours. Paraeducators in this class support the following special education services:
Twice Exceptional, Learning & Academic Disabilities / Resource Services (HSM, HBS, LAD/RES).
Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds may be required. Outside duty may be required; must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling and change of location and/or program as needed. Continues planned instructional activities during the teacher’s temporary absence from the classroom.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and the policies of Montgomery County Public Schools. Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program, monitor student behavior, and exhibit patient behavior while working with children, young adults, and staff. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, perform all required tasks, and communicate effectively in written and spoken English. Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web‑based instructional tools.
Ability to learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Preference is given in the following order:
- Associate’s degree (required);
Bachelor’s degree preferred. College coursework should include a minimum of nine credit‑hours related to education, behavior management, or instructional strategies. - One year of experience working with students in structured educational settings.
- At least 48 college credits and two years of experience in a structured setting such as a daycare, pre‑school, or after‑school program.
- Two years of experience in a structured setting and a qualifying score of 455 or higher on the PARA‑Pro Assessment.
- Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills.
