Position
Parent Community Coordinator, Community Schools (8 hours per week for 10 months)
LocationGreencastle Elementary School, Silver Spring
SalaryHourly wage range: $27.67 to $41.87, based on years of service
SummaryUnder the direction of the Community School Coordinator and in collaboration with the school principal, the role provides support to parents and the school community to enhance family engagement. The Coordinator collaborates with the Community School Liaison to determine, plan, and implement wrap‐around services. The Coordinator works with parents and family members to advocate for and include them in home‑school engagement events and opportunities, implements strategies to meet the school community’s needs, identifies and develops available resources, and serves as a liaison between parents, families, school staff, and the community.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Community School Liaison to plan and implement wrap‐around services.
- Advocate for and include parents and families in home‑school engagement events and opportunities.
- Implement strategies to support the school community’s needs using school and community resources.
- Identify and develop resources to support school programs and make them available to families.
- Serve as liaison between parents, families, school, and community.
- Assist parents and families in connecting with and utilizing available community and county services and school programming.
- Establish and maintain a school‑community relationship.
- Work effectively with parents, community members, school staff, and others.
- Knowledge of school programs, the school community and organizations, and available community services and resources in Montgomery County.
- Ability to work effectively with school staff, parents, the community, local organizations, and diverse socioeconomic groups.
- Ability to develop and implement programs to involve parents and the community in school affairs.
- Ability to serve as a parent advocate.
- Skill in organizing and working with groups.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Fluency in a second language is preferred for some positions.
- Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Bachelor's degree required. Coursework in education, counseling, human services field, or communications is desirable. Experience with school and community activities and programs, preferably in a leadership role, is preferred. Some counseling experience is desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree may be considered.
