Summary Description
Provides leadership to teachers in the ESOL department within high schools under supervision of school administration. Supports ESOL teachers in the instructional program, serves as an instructional role model, supports the development of a professional learning community within the department and school, observes and analyzes instructional practices related to teachers' professional growth and evaluation, collaborates with supervisors and colleagues on instructional issues, takes a leadership role in the handling of instructional resources, supports the development of the master schedule, keeps current on content and best practices in the specified subject field, and serves as a liaison to the ESOL office and the school to ensure that all federal and state mandates for English Language Learners are understood and implemented at the local school level.
Serves as a liaison with the parents and school community as an advocate for ESOL students and programs. Physical Demands:

Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
The wage range for this position is a salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education and experience. For information about benefits, please follow the link below. This job includes required summer days for which you will be compensated at your regular rate of pay.

- Thorough knowledge of the high school ESOL program.
- Ability to work well with ESOL students, ESOL teachers, content resource teachers, counselors, appropriate ESOL staff, and administrators.
- Ability to appropriately adapt ESOL instructional programs and materials.
- Supports the professional development of content teachers to implement effective strategies for English Language Learners (ELL).
- Ability to monitor ESOL instruction and analyze data to improve the achievement of ELL.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Master's degree/equivalency required in Second Language Acquisition or its equivalent in semester hours.
- Minimum three years of outstanding secondary teaching experience in ESOL.
- Meets standard or satisfactory rating on most recent evaluation; demonstrates effective teaching practices.
- Demonstrates evidence of continuing professional study and work-related growth.
- Demonstrates skill in working effectively with people.
- Certificate/Licenses:
Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements in ESOL.
