Job Specific Information:
The wage range for this position is a salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education and experience. For information about benefits, please follow the link below.
Under direction/supervision of the school principal, the Alternative Level I teacher plans and implements a program for secondary school students to support students in experiencing greater academic and behavioral success and in meeting exit criteria to make them eligible to return full-time to a regular comprehensive school program; improve student attendance; engage parents in the students program; improve behavior and social skills and provide differentiated instruction and increase the amount of school work completed.

Special Requirements:
Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Thorough knowledge of MCPS curriculum and Program of Studies and a broad repertoire of effective instructional strategies to facilitate differentiated instruction. A belief that all students can succeed. Skills in motivating reluctant learners, effective monitoring skills for individual and small groups of students and building school connectedness. Skilled in assessment, intervention implementation, data collection and analysis. Skills in behavioral management strategies and social skills instruction.
Ability to effectively engage parents. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors. Excellent communication and human relations skills.
Master’s degree or equivalent with special interest in teaching discouraged learners and at-risk adolescents. Three years outstanding teacher experience. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
Certificate License:
Meet Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
