Overview
At the direction of the principal, this para educator performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being to support students who are diploma bound. The role focuses on facilitating the mastery of grade-level or higher curriculum. Students are typically in general education classes throughout the school day and may be pulled out for individualized or small-group reinforcement of instruction.
The position also includes instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in all types of classrooms and learning environments. New para educators are hired at grade 13 and may be promoted to grade 14 after completing a six-month probationary period and the required number of training hours.

Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
Special Requirements
:
Outside duty may be required. Must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling and changes of location as needed. Continues planned instructional activities during the teacher's temporary absence.
Grade level support. Wage range: $23.61 - $34.82 per hour, based on years of service. Benefits information:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and guidelines for Montgomery County Public Schools
- Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior
- Patience and effective interaction with children, young adults, and staff members
- Follow written and verbal instructions and perform all required tasks
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Read, write, and speak English fluently
- Support students with special needs
- Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools
- Rapid learning and meeting the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS)
Bachelor's degree preferred. College coursework should include at least nine credit hours related to education field such as behavior management, instructional strategies. One year of experience working with students in structured educational settings preferred; if no related coursework, then two to four years of experience working with children and adolescents in a structured setting such as a daycare, pre-school, etc.,
