Position Overview

We are seeking a Para educator Level I for the Special Education program at Pine Crest Elementary School in Silver Spring. This part‑time position requires 3.5 hours of Para educator duties combined with 3 hours as a Lunch Hour Aide, totaling 6.5 hours per week over a 10‑month school year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in general education and special education classes to support student mastery of grade‑level curriculum and alternate academic standards.
  • Provide instructional and classroom‑management support, including small‑group or individualized instruction.
  • Complete clerical tasks to assist teachers and staff in all learning environments.
  • Maintain instructional continuity when the teacher is absent.
  • Accommodate flexible scheduling and potential location changes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of child development and instructional strategies.
  • Knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools policies and instructional goals.
  • Ability to implement instructional programs and monitor student behavior.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Computer proficiency:
    Google Workspace, MS Office, and web‑based instructional tools.
Education, Training, and Experience
  • Associate’s degree required;
    Bachelor’s preferred.
  • At least nine credit hours in education–related coursework.
  • Preferred: one year of experience working with students in structured educational settings.
  • Or at least 48 college credits and two years experience in a structured setting (daycare, pre‑school, etc.).
  • Or two years experience in a structured setting with a qualifying Para Pro Assessment score (≥455) required.
  • Other combinations of education, training, and experience that meet job requirements may be considered.
Schedule and Compensation

Schedule:

Part‑time, 0.812 (65 hours bi‑weekly). Working months: 10. Pay range: $24.38 to $36.67 per hour based on years of service.

Physical Demands

Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. May require flex to accommodate overtime or overnight work.
