Lead (Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability) EHSS Engineer Responsibilities
- Implement, maintain, and monitor EHSS compliance and workplace EHSS objectives.
- Establish and maintain EHSS policies, programs, and operational procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations and corporate standards.
- Establish and maintain EHSS-focused corporate social responsibility management systems.
- Assess EHSS impact of new projects/processes and participate in owner/architect/contractor meetings.
- Provide technical expertise in environmental compliance and stewardship (air, water, hazardous waste, materials management, chemical reporting) and drive continuous improvement/sustainability.
- Provide expertise in product stewardship, qualitative occupational exposure assessments, and high potent compound safety.
- Support health and safety compliance (injury/illness prevention, materials handling, energy control, biosafety, radiation/lab safety, PPE assessments, occupational health, fall protection, emergency preparedness).
- Oversee water use/discharge control (permit writing, notifications, monitoring, sampling, reporting, records retention).
- Oversee site waste management (pollution prevention, waste removal, waste profiles, manifests, inspections, environmental reporting/records).
- Complete chemical reporting and community right-to-know submittals; maintain chemical inventory and SDSs.
- Develop engineering controls for hazards (biological, high potent compounds, chemical/energy, flammable liquids, fall protection).
- Develop and implement temporary worker and contractor safety protocols.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or environmental engineering.
- 8+ years relevant experience in pharma/life sciences or chemical engineering.
- 6+ years EHSS experience in high-level expansion projects.
- Proven interface with multi-level regulatory agency personnel.
- EHSS management systems auditing experience.
- Project management skills with attention to detail, timelines, and results.
- Ability to develop and sustain a strong EHS culture.
- Integrity and alignment with EHS mission/values.
- Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist.
- Experience in an FDA regulated environment.
