Supervisory Cartographer

This position is located within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), with one vacancy in Silver Spring, MD. This position requires applicants to meet a Basic Education Requirement and at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience to be considered minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package.

• A. Degree:
  Cartography – or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such coursework may include cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing.
• Those 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college‑level, non‑business mathematics or statistics (e.g., algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics).
• B. Combination of education and experience – courses equivalent to a major in cartography or a major that included at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science and related mathematics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Applicants must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. This experience may be paid, unpaid, volunteer, or from any organization, and will be credited toward the required expertise.

• In addition to the Basic Requirements, applicants must provide one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP‑4 or GS‑14 level.
• Specialized experience must include:
• Conducting strategic planning of operational functions for a program providing marine surveying or mapping products and services.
• Developing and implementing program policies or procedures to provide marine navigational surveys.
• Leading or managing a team or subordinate personnel, including overseeing personnel actions, assigning work, setting priorities, and providing feedback or technical expertise for assignments.
