Overview
State Highway Administration, District 3 (Prince Georges County) is recruiting for a Project Engineer (Transportation Engineer III), Grade 17 (0117) SP# 26-83-14. This position is open to applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications. This is a position-specific recruitment; the resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only.
Nature of Work and Responsibilities- Serve as a project manager with supervisory duties within the District 3 Maintenance Office.
- Manage projects and contracts with varying levels of complexity in Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
- Track and monitor ongoing contractor tasks and report project status impacting District 3 Maintenance.
- Provide initial approval of contractor invoices.
- Assist with management of the Customer Care Management System (CCMS) issues related to maintenance operations.
- Supervise subordinate maintenance inspectors and construction inspectors; advise and assist Assistant District Engineers, District Operations Engineers, Resident and Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineers, Highway Tech Managers, and consultants; provide technical support to inspection staff as needed.
Education
:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience
:
Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.
Selective Qualification
:
One (1) year of the required experience must have involved maintenance, construction, utility, traffic and/or bridge inspection, contract management.

- Additional work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. Within one year of appointment, must possess the following certifications:
- Flagger Certification
- Pavement Marking Certification
- Traffic Control Manager's Certificate
- Hot Mix Asphalt Certification
Special Requirements: Employees in this classification are considered essential and are expected to be available to work 24 hours/day, 7 days/week for emergency weather events and/or other maintenance-related incidents. This position may be assigned a state vehicle.
