Federal Government Cost Accountant

IBM Consulting Federal seeks an experienced accounting professional specializing in U.S. Federal Government cost accounting to join the Federal Finance Team. This role offers opportunities to advance careers in Finance, Accounting, and Compliance. It can be based at Herndon, VA;

The Federal Government Cost Accountant reports to the Federal Controller. The position requires deep knowledge of GAAP and all U.S. Federal Government regulations (FAR, CAS, DFARS). Responsibilities include ensuring all costs are accumulated in the Deltek Costpoint ledger system per CAS, providing cost impact analysis of potential CAS changes, and ensuring revenue recognition complies with GAAP. The candidate must manage tasks in a multi‑segment and multi‑system environment, understand and reconcile the corporate general ledger, and possess thorough knowledge of intercompany accounting.

Audit readiness, active participation in audits, and ownership of documentation for all processes aligned to the role are also required. Experience with process re‑engineering is needed.

The candidate will work independently, proactively obtain data from internal and external sources, and collaborate cross‑functionally with Finance, IT, Quote to Cash, Procurement, Pricing, Contracts, and Legal. Clear and concise communication is essential.

Master's Degree

• U.S. Citizenship and U.S. location required
• Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance or related field
• 5+ years of experience in Corporate accounting
• 5+ years of experience in Government contracting, compliance and/or audit with deep knowledge of CAS, FAR, DFARS
• Experience with Deltek Costpoint or other Government Contracting software

• 7+ years of experience in financial management of Government contracts, Compliance and audit
• Master’s+ in Accounting/Finance or related field
• Certified Public Accountant
