Position:
Financial Analyst – Grants
Department: 10424 Research Business Office
Pay Range: $54,683.20 – $91,145.60

The Financial Analyst – Grants works directly with Business Office Leadership and assigned faculty in the management of financial and compliance activities related to sponsored and non‑sponsored programs. The FA performs analysis and projections related to business or research trends, oversees the development and monitoring of departmental, non‑sponsored, discretionary and sponsored budgets, plans and determines costs of business activities; recommends budget adjustments and other cost‑improvement measures, and closes out terminated grants and contracts, transfers funding and produces summary documents.

The position ensures that all funding is received and that expenditures do not exceed revenue, develops financial planning and cost analysis reports, and meets with faculty to review and ensure compliance with hospital and/or agency regulations and restrictions while performing comprehensive financial analysis to improve departmental financial effectiveness.

Responsibility Highlights
  • Responsible Conduct of Research: Demonstrates adherence to standards for responsible research conduct; plans, conducts and manages projects under IRB/regulatory policy; ensures use of research funds and resources appropriately; maintains confidentiality; meets training compliance.
  • Financial Analysis: Interprets data to determine past performance and project financial probability; analyzes budget performance, investigates variances, justifies and communicates to PI and leaders; monitors expenditures for budgeted grants; prepares reports to maintain balanced accounts; develops forecasting, trending and results reports; monitors monthly expenditures, resolves deficits, aids in audit inquiries, assists in FY closeout.
  • Financial Services: Reviews charges, determines allowability/allocability, verifies funds, obtains authorizations in a timely manner; reviews payroll distributions; processes PDRs; prepares budget modifications; maintains backup for grant revenue and expenditures; manages non‑payroll cost transfers.
  • Grants Management: Works with PI to complete interim progress and administrative reports; manages re‑budgeting, personnel changes, extensions, supplements; facilitates ancillary agreements; provides periodic financial reporting; ensures GAAP, NIH grants policy, FDP, OMB, CAS compliance; assists investigators with grant management questions.
  • Sponsored Programs Management: Reviews payroll distributions; reconciles payroll; submits effort certifications; approves financial requests per OMB circulars; prepares documents for cost transfers; manages funding for investigators; assists FY‑end closeout.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Administration or related business/healthcare field.
  • Minimum Experience:

    1 year of progressive, related experience.
  • Skills:

    Problem‑solving, quantitative analysis, strong verbal & written communication; ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work with confidential materials; proficiency in PCs and related software; solid management & organizational skills; excellent judgement; ability to work with limited supervision; experience with departmental budget and personnel communication.
