The Prince George's County Police Department is currently seeking experienced police officer (EPO) candidates to be considered for the Comparative Compliance EPO Academy. The Police Department is seeking men and women that exhibit characteristics of good character, sound judgment, honesty, reliability and integrity that blend together with a philosophy for community‑oriented policing and a strong desire to serve the interests of the citizens of Prince George's County.
Candidates approved for hire in this position will attend a Comparative Compliance EPO Academy.
The Comparative Compliance EPO Academy will be offered to all NON-MARYLAND CERTIFIED experienced police officers, to include Federal and Out-of‑State jurisdictions with at least one year of service with their respective agency. Candidates must meet the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission requirements for approved entrance level training. Entrance Level Training Waiver requests will be submitted by the department on behalf of the applicant during the background investigation phase of the hiring process.
EPO candidates must be currently certified by a recognized agency and have completed at least one year as a full time Police Officer.
Examples of Work- Enforce local, state, and federal laws to protect life and property
- Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety
- Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls for service
- Investigate crimes by collecting evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records
- Make arrests and issue citations when appropriate
- Enforce traffic laws and respond to traffic accidents
- Provide assistance and support to individuals in crisis situations
- Engage with the community to build trust and promote crime prevention
- Testify in court and work with prosecutors and other justice partners
- Uphold departmental policies, ethical standards, and professional conduct
- Currently certified as a Police Officer with a recognized agency with a minimum of 12 months patrol experience. Past or current experience must be in the following activities:
Enforcing state and local criminal laws and ordinances;
Enforcing state and local traffic laws and ordinances. Making physical arrests;
Investigating traffic accidents;
Operating an emergency vehicle;
Responding to calls for service involving conflict management/mediation. - Must provide proof of Good Standing with Current Agency
- U.S. Citizen
- High School graduate; (60+ college credit hours preferred)
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Successfully complete all requirements of the Background and Selection Process
