2 South ICU is a 30-bed intensive care unit providing care to patients with complex medical needs requiring critical care modalities and interventions. It is staffed by intensivists, registered nurses, and health unit coordinators, with support from advanced practice nurses.

General SummaryUsing the Quality Caring Model, the RN demonstrates acceptable performance and applies the nursing process to plan and manage care of routine patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The RN effectively communicates fundamental patient/family information to the healthcare team, identifies and communicates variances from patient goals, and is responsible for providing and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care utilizing the nursing process.
This job description applies to all Registered Nurses who have successfully met performance expectations. The employee supports the mission of CHE Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.
MinimumLicensure/Certification Required
Graduation from an accredited nursing program; basic professional nursing degree (BSN or MSN) preferred. Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse. BLS certification; additional Life Support training as applicable.
Professional specialty certifications may be required according to departmental standards or role requirements:
- HRPC:
Inpatient OB certification for exam-eligible RNs - For RNs working in Labor and Delivery, High Risk Perinatal Center and Float Pool E: NCC EFM Certification. Certification must be obtained within twelve months of hire for novice and experienced RNs newly hired.
- Current knowledge of nursing skills and practice
- Computer and audiovisual skills using various applications:
Internet, email, word processing - Ability to retrieve and interpret data
- Effective reading, speaking, writing, composing, and comprehending English
- Effective eye and hand coordination
- Ability to analyze and synthesize information within a short period of time
- Effective problem‑solving skills
- Ability to multi‑task, organize, and prioritize
- Teamwork ability to work well with individuals and groups
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift patients/patient care equipment up to 35 pounds; push, pull, and move patients and equipment; bend down at the waist and kneel; use a computer for periods of time.
Visual AcuityClose visual acuity required for tasks such as data analysis, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspection of small parts.
Auditory AcuitySufficient acuity to identify auditory alarms in noisy environments.
Environmental ConditionsSubject to hazards associated with a hospital environment.
Reporting RelationshipReports to a manager or director.
